Tempered Glass

Tempered glass (Toughened glass) is process by heating flat glass to

1.jpg the temperature(650 °c)nearly softening point and suddenly blowing cool air,the exterior of glass is solidified due to rapid cooling while the interior of the glass panels is cooled down relatively slowly.the results of process make the outer skins under powerful compressive stress and the interior with severe tensile stress, which can improve the mechanical strength of plate glass by germination and result in good thermal stability, this impact applied to the glass will be overcome by the compressive stress on the surfaces to assure safety of use.The intensity is the same size of normal glass(non tempered glass)4~5times,tempered glass can't cut, drill, polished,it will become small particles similar to honeycomb obtuse, when it's broken, not easy to hurt.it is a good safety glass, use in table top, glass fence, shower room, stairway plate, glass partitions, glass railings, furniture, window glass, glassdoor and range of glass glazing.

Advantages:
Resistance to wind load,Safety, toughened glass flexural strength is ordinarily glass 4-5 times.
the premise of chemical structure and light propagation is not affected,
Resistance to heat shock, excellent thermal stability which can withstand a temperature difference of 200 °c.
Tempered glass change into oval-shaped pebbles when broken, which eliminates the danger of sharp edges hurt to body

Toughened Glass FAQ’s

How can you tell if glass is tempered?

Toughened glass will usually have a printed label near the edge of the glass with details of the glass standard as relevant to the Country’s specific glass standards. This is usually ceramic ink applied to the glass via a silk screen prior to furnacing. This printed label then fuses and becomes part of the glass during the toughening/heating process.

Is Tempered glass breakable?

Yes, although it is far safer than annealed glass when broken. The impact energy is dispersed over a larger area and the chance of injury is greatly reduced compared to standard plate glass.

Can I cut tempered glass?

No not with a glass cutter. Toughened glass cannot be cut with a normal glass cutter, it will shatter during the process.

Can tempered glass be recycled?

Yes. Although it should be kept separate to normal glass. Toughened glass cannot be recycled together with standard glass as their properties and melting temperatures are different.

Is Tempered Glass more expensive than regular plate glass?

Yes, toughening is an extra process that is applied to standard glass to make it stronger.
